Wayamba University of Sri Lanka receives US $ 28 M (Rs. 4200 M) from Saudi Fund for Development


A loan agreement was signed between the Saudi Fund for Developemnt and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka for the Wayamba University Township Development Project on 27th March 2017 at the Head Quarters of Saudi Fund for Development, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The agreement was signed by Dr. H Samaratunga, Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Mr. Abdullah A Al-Shedokhi, Senior Specialist, Saudi Fund for Development.

Prof. S J B A Jayasekera, Vice-Chancellor, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, Mr. Priyantha Rathnayake, Director General, Department of External Resources, Mr. G M R D Aponsu, Director (Planning), Ministry of Higher Education, Mr. A K Wickramaratne, Director, National Planning, Mr. Indika Premaratne, Director, Department of External Resources, Mr. Thusitha Narasinghe, Asst. Director, Department of External Resources and Mr. Azim Thassim, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Saudi Arabia were present at this occasion.

The township project is designed to develop academic facilities and infrastructure of the University as well as to uplift the livelihood of the people who live in the immediate surrounding area of the University.  The major objective of the project is to establish a knowledge based self-reliant and sustainable community interaction system for the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.
